Hello from a train! I'm posting this from Amtrak's Coast Starlight, traveling north from Santa Barbara to San Jose. We're heading home after a wonderful vacation week in Santa Barbara, where we thoroughly enjoyed the local food, drink, history, and scenery. Between the gorgeous ocean views and the incredible election results, I reveled in maximum blue wave joy this week!
It was great to have the opportunity for a fun getaway, and now it will be great to return home and have the opportunity to refocus on writing. I haven't taken much time this year to blog about writing, but work continues at the usual slow pace. Recently I drifted back into a planning stage and got stuck there for a while, and now I'm ready for drafting mode again.
While I'm not undertaking any particular November writing challenge this year, I hope to harness the month's ambient noveling energy. I'll try to keep in mind that once upon a time, I used to get a lot written every November, despite the oncoming rush of the end of the year with all its holidays.
I've been reading some great books lately, and next week I'll share my monthly roundup of reviews. For now, please enjoy a few photos of Santa Barbara waves:
Good Stuff Out There:
→ Jessica Johnson-Perez crunches the numbers on reading drop-off for book series: "I've heard people say they assume some multiplier on Goodreads ratings (6x? 10x?) is roughly the number of books sold which is why I'm using ratings as a proxy for books sold. I assume the rate at which people leave ratings has not changed in between books or over time. This means, we can assume the decline in ratings is roughly representative of the decline in readership." (Thanks, Book Riot)
